  • Ruutu only played one season at Michigan Tech, but quickly gathered a fan following for his agressive play and even created their own section of the rink called "Ruutu's Roost". Jarrko posted 12 goals and 10 assists that season before returning to Finland to play three more seasons..... When he returned to North America the 1998 draft pick of the Vancouver Canucks ended up with the Syracuse Crunch (AHL). Ruutu put up solid numbers posting 26 goals, 36 assists, and 164 PIMs in just 65 games..... The jersey shows wear which mirrors these numbers. The sleeves have dozens of holes and several of the tears have been repaired with twill patches matched to the stripe color..... ..... KidsTix program patch on the right shoulder..... Wegmans sponsor patch on the right chest..... Jersey numbers are three color - two layers of sewn twill with a middle layer of heat press vinyl..... The name (on nameplate) is single color sewn twill..... Obtained from a private collector in April 2002.

  • One item on this jersey worth researching is that it has signs of a namplate change. By consulting the Vancouver Canucks website, we found an all-time numerical roster. The players that have worn #37 in the regular season include: Jim Agnew, Brandon Reid, Jarkko Ruutu, and Rick Rypien. Agnew played on and off for five seasons with Vancouver, however last played for the Canucks in 1991-92. Reid played in 10 games from 2002-04, but wore number 14 during those years. Rypien did not play until 2005 (2005-07) so he can be eliminated. The jersey shows no sign of year 2000 patch so that likely rules out the jersey being used by Ruutu during 1999-2000. So best guess is that this jersey was worn by an unknown player with a longer nameplate in the preseason and eventually became a Ruutu regular season jersey..... Regardless of the background, the jersey shows good wear with board burns on the elbows and right shoulder..... Numbering is done in three color twill. The bottom layer is a silver metallic is has a slight red tint as the middle layer was bleeding in likely from washing. The name is single color twill on a a nameplate..... The size tag is obscured by the nameplate sewing but appears to match other size 58 jerseys..... The jersey is marked "S-2 RUUTU" on the fight strap..... Obtained from a private collector in August 2006.

  • 2001-02
  • Size 58 CCM knit
  • CCM patch above nameplate
  • Ruutu became a staple of the Canucks for five full seasons and played in over 250 games , logging 485 PIMs, before departing after the 2005-06 season for Pittsburgh. ..... Another great Ruutu jersey with four team repairs and several areas of blood that have been washed out..... The neck has also be heavily reinforced in the front using three colors to match the existing neckline colors..... Jersey numbers are three color sewn twill with the inner-most blue layer being textured. The name (on nameplate) is single color sewn twill..... Obtained from a private collector in August 2006.
