Although he hasn't yet gotten a shot at the NHL as of this update, Riley certainly has put up solid numbers in the UHL and CHL. Through the 2006-07 season Nelson had scored over 200 goals and 270 assists in seven seasons as a professional..... This jersey isn't far from a patch-work quilt and has more than enough patches to go around. Patches on this jersey include: Pepsi sponsor patch on right chest, United Hockey League on left shoulder, Knoxville Speed logo on right shoulder, and a US Flag just below the neck line..... The material is extremely heavy and the jersey is almost two pounds..... The numbers are two color sewn twill and the name (on nameplate) is single color sewn twill..... Heavy wear is another trademark of this jersey with lots of cuts, snags, stick marks, and pilling of the material. Here are a few close up shots of the jersey wear: right sleeve (view 1), (view 2), left shoulder, and right shoulder..... Obtained from a private collector in June 2002.

Left Column: 1996 Great Lakes Invatational, Joe Louis Arena... This is the origin of what is now referred to as the Michigan Tech rule in NCAA hockey. Prior to this game, entire teams were allowed to warm-up on the ice prior to the start of each period. (Since that game, a team is only allowed to have 6 skaters on the ice prior to the start of any period.) That afternoon both teams arrived on the ice looking to vent the frustrations of their semi-final games. MTU went down 6-1 to #1 ranked Michigan the night before while MSU was coming off their first GLI game in which they failed to score a goal losing 5-0 to arch rival Lake Superior State. As the teams began to skate full laps of the rink for warm-up a stick of an MSU player ended up between the legs of MTU defenseman Travis VanTighem... and the photos explain the rest.

Right Column: In the top photo, Riley and a Spartan watch the pregame brawl. In the bottom photo, Nelson faces off against University of Michigan Wolverine, and future NHL'er, John Madden.
